Because I Like You, and You, and You

A Greater stick-nest rat (Leporillus conditor) is bound for Mornington
A Rufous mouse lemur (Microcebus rufus) is bound for Fremantle

Editions of our artists' book, Because I Like You, will be on display as part of the forthcoming 2016 New Works on Paper and Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award exhibitions.

All ten editions of our artists’ book, Because I Like You, were released into the wild from our stall at the Melbourne Art Book Fair at the NGV earlier this year. From that ten, the Eurasian red squirrel climbed the collection shelves of the University of Melbourne Library; the Sea otter swam through the plumbing to reach the State Library of Victoria; the Greater bilby flew buckshee across the border to Canberra, to the National Library of Australia; and the Black-and-gold howler monkey swung into the collection of the State Library of Queensland. The Polar bear and Royal antelope elected to reside in private collections. And now a further two have packed their kitbags. We are thrilled that the Greater stick-nest rat edition of our artists' book will be unfurled at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, and the Rufous mouse lemur will be on display at the Fremantle Arts Centre.

Why the Greater stick-nest rat?
I like you because you can weave a secure nest from branches and collected vegetation. I could be talking about a Greater stick-nest rat (Leporillus conditor); I could be talking about you.

Why the Rufous mouse lemur?
You’re shy and nocturnal, hiding in the foliage from the Fossa, the Ring-tailed mongoose, and the Madagascar harrier hawk, and it is why I like you so. I could be talking about a Rufous mouse lemur (Microcebus rufus); I could be talking about you.
